Jean Marie Habarugira

Senior Scientific Officer EDCTP3

Dr Jean Marie Vianney Habarugira is a Senior Scientific Officer at Global Health EDCTP3, where he plays a key role in the Science and Operations Unit, overseeing large-scale clinical research projects on infectious diseases, and coordinating the activities of the Scientific Committee which advises the organisation on strategic and scientific matters.

A trained Pharmacist and Pharmacologist with a PhD in Pharmacology, he specialized in drug development, pharmacovigilance, and drug safety, with a strong focus on poverty-related diseases, especially those impacting sub-Saharan Africa.

Dr. Habarugira is a member of the GloPID-R Executive Board and serves on multiple working groups supporting global research responses to emerging infectious diseases. In international scientific fora and summits, he is a prominent advocate, pushing for improved clinical trial capacity, research infrastructure, and sustainable collaboration between Europe and Africa.
