Mariana Widmer

Scientist, Maternal and Perinatal Health WHO

Mariana Widmer is a biochemist with Master’s degrees in Science and Bioethics. She specializes in research prioritization, clinical trials, evidence synthesis, and improving access to quality-assured maternal medicines in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

With extensive experience leading large-scale clinical trials and fostering public–private research collaborations, she is committed to advancing equitable and ethically grounded health solutions that improve maternal well-being worldwide.

Mariana is currently co-leading a WHO task force focused on enabling the timely and ethical inclusion of pregnant women in clinical trials.
