Dr. Janet Byaruhanga is a seasoned health policy expert with over 18 years of experience advancing Africa’s health and development agenda within the African Union system—split equally between the African Union Commission and AUDA-NEPAD, where she currently serves. She holds a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Rwanda, a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health Research from the University of Edinburgh, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Studies from the University of Cumbria.
At the AU Commission, Dr. Byaruhanga championed flagship programs on health, nutrition, and population, contributing to key continental frameworks. At AUDA-NEPAD, she has led transformative initiatives to strengthen health systems, drive regulatory harmonization, and localize pharmaceutical manufacturing—most notably spearheading the 24 Priority Medical Products Initiative. Her work continues to focus on building resilient health economies through strategic partnerships, policy innovation, and regional integration.
