Keymanthri Moodley

Emeritus Professor at Stellenbosch University and an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Social Medicine, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill

is an Emeritus Professor at Stellenbosch University and an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Social Medicine, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, USA She is a specialist family physician and bioethicist. To date, she has served as Principal Investigator on 5 NIH grant funded research projects and has clinical trial experience as a PI. She has been involved in GCP and Research Ethics training for 2 decades and has served on DSMBs and RECs/IRBs. Over the past 8 years, Keymanthri has served on the Scientific Advisory Committee of EDCTP 2 and 3.

Keymanthri currently has over 140 publications (journals, books, book chapters) and is an NRF rated researcher. She is also a member of the Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf).

Over the past 15 years, Keymanthri has worked on various expert groups with the World Health Organisation (WHO). She currently co-chairs the WHO Working Group on Clinical Ethics, developing guidelines for clinical ethics consultation. Her most recent NIH funded research project explored ethical, legal and social issues (ELSI) in Big Data and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Africa.  Keymanthri is currently a member of the WHO Ethics and AI Expert Group.
